K&R C refers to the version of the C programming language described in the first edition of “The C Programming Language” by Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie, published in 1978. This book is often referred to as the "K&R" book, and it became the de facto standard for the language before formal standardization in 1990 with ANSI C. K&R C played a crucial role in popularizing the C language and was instrumental in its widespread adoption, particularly in systems programming and the development of UNIX.
K&R C introduced many of the C Language fundamental concepts and C syntax that continue to define the C language. The language at this stage had limited type checking, no function prototypes, and supported implicit function declarations.
