A Bare Metal Hypervisor, introduced in the early 2000s, is a type of Hypervisor that runs directly on the physical hardware of a computer system without the need for a host operating system. Also known as a Type 1 or native hypervisor, it provides a layer of virtualization that allows multiple operating systems, known as guest OSes, to run concurrently on the same hardware platform. Unlike hosted hypervisors such as VMware Workstation or VirtualBox, which rely on a host operating system for resource management, a bare metal hypervisor has direct access to the underlying hardware, resulting in improved performance and efficiency. Examples include VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V Server, and Citrix XenServer.
